Ayurveda

Ayurveda is known all over the world. Although under different names. The West calls Ayurveda “Biology”. The meaning of biology is similar to Ayurveda. While Bios in Biology means “life”, Ayur in Ayurveda also means “life”. While Logos in Biology means “knowing”, Veda in Ayurveda also means “knowledge”.

Traditionally, Ayurveda teaches people on an individual level what to eat, how to live and, in the event of a physical imbalance, how to heal. This is to make the most of life as possible. Both physically and spiritually. Ayurveda provides knowledge on an individual level. What is good for me may be bad for you. This is because we all have a unique composition of the 5 elements and we are also subject to the environment in which we live and the time in which we live.

Each of us consists of a unique combination of the three energies or ‘doshas’. The goal of Ayurveda is to provide optimal health and cure physical imbalances through specifically designed treatments, nutrition and lifestyle.

Ayurveda is a comprehensive health system that originated thousands of years ago in India. We can find historical evidence about Ayurveda in the ancient books known as the Vedas. The RigVeda contains more than sixty recipes for medicines that can be used for various diseases. RigVeda is more than 6,000 years old, but Ayurveda is even older than that. Ayurveda is more than just a medical system. It is the Science of Life.

Siddha medicine is one of the most ancient medical systems of India. Siddha is the mother medicine of ancient Tamils/Dravidians of peninsular South India. The word Siddha means established truth. The persons who were associated with establishing such a Siddha school of thought were known as Siddhars. They recorded their mystic findings in medicine, yoga, and astrology in Tamil. Fundamental Principles of Siddha include theories of Five Elements and Three Forces/Faults. The Eight Methods of Examination is used to determine diagnosis, etiology, treatment and prognosis. Lifestyle modifications including diet are important.

The Siddha system of medicine provides preventive, promotive, curative, rejuvenative and rehabilitative health care by adopting scientific and holistic approach.
